“A
WEEKLY WORD” by Ed Dohar
FIFTH SUNDAY
All
Scripture taken from the Authorized, King James Bible
ADOPTION
Romans 8:14-15 "For as
many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For you have
not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the
Spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba, Father."
There are many homeless today as
there have been always for many reasons. In some countries the homeless are
young children who beg, borrow and steal to live off the streets. Their concern
is to find enough food on which to survive for that day. Shelters are makeshift
hovels, sewer vaults or bridge abutments. Their lot physically is much like
even well-to-do persons’ who are spiritually homeless searching for inner peace
and joy aimlessly with daily agony of soul and spirit.
An ideal solution for
homelessness is adoption if both parties are in agreement with the ground
rules. Physically, the adoptee must be willing to give up their street manners
and abide by the rules of home living. Spiritual homeless are provided an
adoptive home by God if the adoptee is willing to give up all their old means
of survival and hope, depending entirely upon God for their well being.
The physical adoptee can expect
to be an inheritor of the family estate. The spiritual adoptee is guaranteed to
be a co-inheritor with God's only begotten son, Jesus Christ in the Father's
household for all eternity. If you are a spiritual homeless one, God loves you
and wants you for a child regardless of your past if you are willing. Tell God
that you desire adoption, and that you accept the offer of His Son who has made
every provision for you.
MONDAY:
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which
are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For
the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of
sin and death. For
what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending
his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the
flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not
after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh;
but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be
carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life
and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not
subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the
flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so
be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have
not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you,
the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because
of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead
dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead
shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth
in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after
the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the
Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led
by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Romans 8:1-14 AV)
Be ye not unequally yoked together with
unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what
concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he
that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the
TUESDAY:
For all the law is fulfilled in
one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one
another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of
another. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not
fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the
flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the
things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
(Galatians 5:14-18 AV)
But the scripture hath concluded
all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus
Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept
under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we
might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer
under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by
faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into
Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither
bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ
Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs
according to the promise. (Galatians 3:22-29 AV)
WEDNESDAY:
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath
bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth
us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we
know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as
he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth
himself, even as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3 AV)
Be ye therefore followers of
God, as dear children; And
walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an
offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling
savour. (Ephesians 5:1-2 AV)
THURSDAY:
Now I say, That
the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing
from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors
until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were
in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness
of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the
law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we
might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent
forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore
thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God
through Christ. (Galatians 4:1-7 AV)
And if children, then heirs;
heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him,
that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are
not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth
for the manifestation of the sons of God. (Romans 8:17-19 AV)
FRIDAY:
Blessed be the God and
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual
blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us
in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without
blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of
children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his
will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted
in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath
abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the
mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in
himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of
times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in
heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have
obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him
who worketh all things after the counsel of his own
will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in
Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth,
the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were
sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our
inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise
of his glory. (Ephesians 1:3-14 AV)
Howbeit we speak wisdom among
them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of
this world, that come to nought: But we speak the
wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God
ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this
world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the
Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither
have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them
that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the
Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the
deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things
of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even
so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit
of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit
which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of
God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth;
comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are
foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth
all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of
the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1
Corinthians 2:6-16 AV)
SATURDAY:
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared
as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven
saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell
with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and
be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there
shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any
more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the
throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for
these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It
is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him
that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God,
and he shall be my son. (Revelation 21:2-7 AV)
Wherefore I also, after I heard
of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you,
making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye
may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of
his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of
his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him
at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all
principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named,
not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things
under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to
the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him
that filleth all in all. (Ephesians 1:15-23 AV)
